samsung c22f390 review

The Samsung C22F390 is a 22-inch monitor with a widescreen display and curved screen for a wrap-around immersive experience of viewing media.  The screen’s curvature has a radius of 1800 mm, creating enough curve to wrap around you and draw you into the experience of your games, films, photographs, or even office work.

The Full High Definition display is easy on the eyes, both as a fixture on your desk and as a display for viewing purposes. Imagine a panoramic scene enfolding you like an Imax screen, and then imagine that experience at your own desk. That’s what you get with this highly curved and very elegant looking monitor.

Specifications of the Samsung C22F390 Display

  • Screen Size: 22 inches
  • Panel Type: VA
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080
  • Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
  • Response Time: 4 ms

First Impressions: the Samsung C22F390 at a Glance

The Samsung C22F390 classes up any desk with its sleek curved design. The monitor is a slim half-inch and the footprint on your desk remains minimal. Placing yourself in front of this screen, it seems to wrap around you for an engrossing multimedia experience, or for going easy on your eyes if you spend long hours working in front of the screen.

Standing on a simple and elegant circular stand, the glossy black bezel frames the curvature of the monitor, turning even a simple screen saver into a framed work of art on your desk.

That slim profile is almost unbelievably thin, although cables plugged into the back do somewhat mar the elegant lines. Aesthetically speaking, it is as well that this model does not support a wide array of ports like DP or USB inputs and outputs. If a user looks to make use of such connections, however, their lack would present an obvious obstacle to the desired type of use.

Display Quality of the Samsung C22F390 PC Monitor

With the trademarked Active Crystal Color Technology from Samsung, the C22F390 supports almost seventeen million colors in its display. Because the panel type is a Vertical Alignment (VA), the monitor may not be suited to work where precision color is critical, but they do display a high ratio of contrast and deep levels of black.

The monitor boasts a 3000 to one ratio of static contrast, and the screen’s curve is designed to mimic the curvature of the human retina at the back of the eye. Whether you are working or playing, gaming or watching some video, the sensation of surround view is almost like an Imax screen for quality. This 1800R screen has a deeply curved screen to allow you to fully immerse yourself in all the media content that you enjoy while reducing eye strain by providing a smooth tracking experience for eyes moving across the display.

For some people, the curvature is distracting when using spreadsheets or graphic design with straight lines; depending on the job at hand, the curved screen can sometimes be a detraction rather than an asset. As with every other feature, it is up to you to decide whether your usage is best suited for a flat or curved screen.

An advantage of the VA panel, as compared to IPS technology, is the lack of light leakage. The blacks are deeper, whites more brilliant, colors richer and more vibrant. This model also features a Game Mode that optimizes contrast and colors for optimal experience of multimedia and gaming. You can connect a PC, Mac, or gaming console to this monitor.

Samsung’s signature eye saver mode enables a user to reduce flickering and emissions of blue light with the quick touch of a button. You can continue editing, gaming, movie watching, or reading on your screen for lengthy time periods without inducing fatigue or strain in your eyes.

Features of the Samsung C22F390 Monitor

The Samsung C22F390 comes complete with a streamlined stand that has tilting capability for adjustment. Alternatively, you can take advantage of its VESA Mountable compatibility to mount it on a wall, rack, or vertical work surface.

If power use is a concern, you will be glad for the features that automatically save power by reducing screen brightness. The Eco-Saving Plus enables the user to activate different levels of power saving. With environmental standards in mind, this monitor is constructed without PVC (except where it is used in separate cables), and it is ranked and certified as an Energy Star power saver.

In addition to the Eco Saving Plus and Eye Saver mode, the Samsung C22F390 also include trademarked features like Samsung MagicBright, Samsung MagicUpscale, Flicker Free, Game Mode, and FreeSync.

As with flat screen monitors, Samsung C22F390 can be connected to a computer in conjunction with another monitor; depending on the set-up, this could create a very real surround-sound and picture environment. Because the monitor does not have DP in and out ports, each monitor would have to connect individually to the computer, rather than linking a “daisy chain” from one monitor to the other. This involves more cords and cables, but can be done to achieve the specialty functionality of dual screens.

Connectivity with the Samsung C22F390 VA Monitor

Connectivity with this monitor is achieved with either the D-Sub (VGA) or the HDMI cable, with one port for each. A headphone or speaker jack is also available, allowing the user to incorporate a sound system for gaming, video viewing, or other activities. The AMD FreeSync technology works to synchronize the frame rate output from your graphic card to match the refresh rate of the monitor, enabling you to experience smooth gaming without any lag, hosting, stuttering, or skipping frames.

Combined with the quick response time of 4 ms, gaming is enjoyable smooth, lacking ghosting or blurring. This is a feature unique to the Samsung line, and it makes gaming on a Samsung monitor an immersive experience without the interruptions of technical difficulties or interrupted visuals. You can play your best when you experience the game at its best.

If you consider purchasing a Samsung C22F390, take into consideration the activities for which you intend to put the monitor to use, and the equipment to which you wish to connect it. It does not have Display Ports or connectivity for handheld devices, which may not be a problem for the uses you have in mind. Some people want to be able to use the screen as a display for mobile devices, in which case a different model might be better suited. You can use an adaptor if you wish to use an HDMI port as a Display Port in connecting it to your computer.

The Samsung C22F390 curved monitor provides a terrific picture quality enjoyed by office workers, gamers, and especially by people who wear both of those hats. The modern curved design makes the monitor almost a piece of art in the office, with superb functionality and imagery. Connected with a digital cable, the picture quality of the Samsung C22F390 monitor is unrivaled in its class. The 1800R screen meaning that it is curved, allows you to fully immerse yourself in all the media content you enjoy.

If you are deeply involved in photo or video editing, you might want a higher resolution with more pixels for enhanced picture quality. Short of professional photography, however, the high quality curved screen of the Samsung C22F390 monitor provides a positive experience for a wide variety of computer and gaming activities. The types of activities you engage in will be a determining factor in whether this screen is for you. If the resolution and refresh rate suit the functions for which you want the monitor, the curvature of the screen is certainly a bonus compared to other monitors in the same class.

The Samsung CF390 series, which includes the Samsung C22F390 display that we reviewed here, features great visuals and a curved display for a more immersive viewing experience. The VA panel delivers great image quality and contrast ratio, although it can not compare with IPS panels.
