Performance & Features
ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) adjusts the luminance of the backlighting in a way that allows it to support contrast ratio of up to a whopping 50,000,000:1. This results in the brightest white colors and darkest black tones giving you a lifelike image with vivid details.
Although TN panel monitors have less accurate and consistent colors than the IPS panel monitors, we should focus on the positive aspects of the panel. Firstly, it allows for a rapid 2ms response time which is unachievable by IPS panel monitors. This eliminates ghosting and blurring of fast moving objects even in the fast-paced FPS games, allowing you to compete in the top-tier gaming sessions. Secondly, TN panel monitors are much cheaper than the IPS ones.
Alas, there is yet another drawback which may be minor to some while causing issues to others. The viewing angles of the VE278H amount to 160 degrees vertical and 170 degrees horizontal. This means that the colors will shift and lose their essential tint when you view them from different angles. However, thanks to the wide ergonomic functionalities of this monitor, you will always be able to find a proper position for your monitor in which you can enjoy a good quality image.
ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology provides you with six pre-calibrated presets for the best watching experience of different content on your screen. These presets include Theatre, Gaming, Scenery, Night View, sRGB, and a Standard mode. Just by scrolling through these presets via the OSD buttons, you can see how the image improves according to what type of video content you wish to watch. This features uses the dynamic contrast ratio in order to best suit and optimize your viewing experience.
QuickFit is yet another unique and exclusive feature of the ASUS VE278H. It allows you to set a custom grid over your screen in order to help you with documents editing. Whether you’re an aspiring photographer who can make use of the different photo format grids such as 8×10, 5×7, 4×6, 3×5, and 2×2 or just occasionally need to format a document, you will be able to do so with this feature in a matter of minutes.
The ASUS VE278H is made with eco-friendly materials as its panel is mercury-free while it’s been packaged with the 80% of the recycled materials. You also get a three-year warranty card along with the monitor.
I’d admit that most gaming fanatics have a thrill for unique features and designs for their PC hardware be it graphic cards, casings, motherboards, keyboards, and mouse. ASUS VE278H monitor has a sleek complex simplicity design that comes with it. The height adjust is amazingly flexible together with the tilt.
The 27-inch, 1920×1080-resolution panel feature a matte anti-glare coating for its longevity. The tactile buttons are beautifully placed at the bottom for all of your basic monitor controls. I’m a huge fan of tactile buttons unless in very rare cases. The monitor has well-placed vents to help in lots of cooling which is very important. Additionally, this monitor comes with two 3-watt speakers that, in spite of the placement position at the rear, offer a premium sound quality.
The viewing angle for most designers and gamers will not be a distress either as you can always get a view of the display despite the adjustment. The glossy finish attracts a lot of fingerprints whenever touched. Be ready to always give a polish, no?
The ports that come with this monitor are surprisingly impressive. The Dual HDMI ports for HD sources that can also be used to connect console games, VGA video inputs, and two traditional audio jacks. For the gaming crusaders, the input button is a plus, you press it once and it will just switch between HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 in VGA, which is nice because if you have the PC hooked up on HDMI 1 and say the Xbox One on HDMI 2, you can easily switch your center of play within those two and they’ll both look great.
The color is pretty cool; very bright and vibrant with picture displays looking really breathtaking even on consoles (PS4 & Xbox). After playing around with color adjustments, Theatre Mode gave me exactly what I wanted (after a few tweaks here and there, of course). It may differ per individual but I sincerely believe this monitor has the ability to offer the best color combinations you’d ever want. The assembly is easy and quick. The adjustments are well done and it is easy to tilt in whichever angle you want.
