Are you looking for a 4K monitor with 60Hz or a 1440p screen with 144Hz? Well, this is a major choice to make, for those with high-end PCs. If 4K seems overkill for a 27-inch monitor despite matchless clarity, then 1440p monitor with 144Hz refresh rate is a better choice.
This is exactly where the the Acer XF270HU display tends to prove itself for ensuring a mesmerizing gaming experience. The past two years have witnessed the launch of a few genuinely exciting gaming monitors. The Acer XF270HU is also called the Acer XF270HU bmijdpr.
Well, this is because of a distinct technological combination: New In-Plane Switching (IPS) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panels with high refresh rates and G-sync or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) FreeSync adaptive synchronization technology. While there are top-end G-Sync models from Acer, its XF270HU is an equally capable AMD FreeSyncmodel with a bit less flashy look.
It is a new variant of the famous XB270HUbrpz model, boasting the same 1440p IPS display at a quick refresh rate and 144Hz at 2560 x 1440 resolution. The difference in the first two characters indicates the inclusion of anti-screen-tearing technology – XB supporting G-Sync for Nvidia cards and XF supporting FreeSync for AMD cards.
The G-Sync technology needs an exclusive hardware module due to which the XB model is costly. On the other hand, the XF model does not make you pay such a premium, due to the AMD-card-based FreeSync technology. Further, it comes with a fully adjustable stand and space-saving design. So, should you go for it? Well, here is what my experience says.
Presenting: Simple, Sensible Design; although Not the Most Attractive One
It is true that the design of XF270HU is not highly attractive but it is also not something to criticize or feel disappointed. The simple design boasts a thin matte bezel of black plastic on each side and the Acer mark on the middle of the bottom. For adjusting the display, there are convenient buttons along the screen’s bottom right.
The monitor resides on a round base, which provides a generous footprint. On it, the red ring is likely to gain your attention while viewing the monitor for the first time. Well, that is just a decorative addition. The stable stand can tilt, pivot, and swivel, for facilitating vertical usage.
The professional design also features a good selection of ports. Although there is no gamer cachet of the XB model, the wide 27-inch IPS panel is enough to pull your attention.
Presenting: Smoother Gaming ExperienceThrough the AMDFreeSync technology, the graphics card determines the frame rate of the game, not the monitors fixed refresh rate. In other words, the frames of the monitor and those of the card are synced, which prevents screen tearing and stuttering and renders a fantastically smoother gaming experience. And yes, there is no hampering of performance in between. While the 1440p (WQHD) display cannot overcome the competing clarity of a 4K monitor, it is still a better option for playing or working on Mac or Windows without scaling the user interface so keep that in mind. This great display at 27-inches in the diagonal achieves a decent balance between several visual assets of a game and small interface elements.
The maximum refresh rate of 144HZ tends to match with most Twisted Nematic (TN) LCD panels. While some competing monitors refresh a bit faster, the difference between 144Hz and them is almost faint.
Similarly, the response time is also higher than 1ms by a few TN panels. However, the difference is still unnoticeable. The transitions are still smooth without any smearing or ghosting effects.
Due to the refresh rate of 144Hz, it is pleasant to flip quickly between windows and tabs with negligible delay. Even using the mouse feels more responsive than what is felt on a 60Hz screen. The 144Hz panel is more convenient than the 60Hz screen, especially when you play fast-paced games.
I agree that the struggle in winning is less on a screen with higher refresh rates than 144Hz but you get some more benefits from XF270HU. For instance, you enjoy a higher resolution than other models and better viewing angles as well as color precision than a TN panel. Well, that’s the beauty of an IPS panel to savor even without having two monitors side-by-side.
Scenes appear more vivacious and realistic. I also spend much time in watching videos apart from playing games, the experience of which is acceptably better through the IPS display of XF270HU.
Presenting: Flicker-less Viewing with Low Blur
We all know how irritating it is to play on a flickering screen. The XF270HU model has taken care of this issue despite being wide. There is no screen flicker, which is a much-wanted experience for heavy monitor users, such as Website developers and writers.
The monitor also features the EyeProtect technology to minimize strain on eyes. Further, the Blue Light filter minimizes the exposure of eyes to the damaging blue light. I appreciate these features, as writing is my profession for which I spend more hours than expected.
Last but not the least; the included Ultra Low Motion Blur technology ensures that there is little to no motion blur. This again adds to comfortable viewing.
Presenting: Improved Image Quality
Well, this is another plus point of this monitor. The credit goes to the great viewing angles, no reflections due to the matte finish, good contrast ratio, natural colors, and fine gradation of colors due to 0.78 Delta E and 2.15 gamma metrics.
Presenting: World-class Sound
Is there any fun in playing without those buzzing bullets, breaking glasses, and big blasts? Well, this fun is ensured by the built-in two speakers that deliver top notch sound. Feels truly exciting!
