  • ComfyView Technology
  • IPS Panel
  • Fast response time
  • Extensive Connectivity

The ComfyView technology takes care of your eyesight. The Acer R240HY produces reduced amount of screen flickering which allows you to look at the screen for long hours without straining your eyes. The built-in blue light filter is adjustable in the OSD settings of the monitor which even more contributes to the safety of your eyes. The produced blue light reaches deeper into your eyes and causes harm, that’s why it’s important to include eye protection technology when choosing monitors; when looking at monitors without such technology you might experience headaches besides the eye fatigue.

The IPS panel of the Acer R240HY provides you with accurate colors needed by professional designers. The affordable price of this monitor makes it ideal for aspiring photographers and editors as they’ll have satisfactory conditions for their work. Moreover, the IPS panel guarantees comfortable viewing angles which will allow you to watch the screen from any distance or angle without the colors losing their tint.

The TN panels, on the other hand, usually have very fast 1ms response time but at the cost of color accuracy and viewing angles. Unless you’re a competitive gamer you should always consider a monitor with an IPS panel if you can afford it, as they’re usually more expensive. However, the enticing price of the Acer R240HY makes the high quality and color accuracy of the IPS panel available to all.

Considering that the affordable Acer R240HY is a budget monitor, the quick response of time only 4ms is a big surprise especially given that it has an IPS panel. A lot of much more expensive IPS monitors don’t have response time below 5ms. In addition, the monitor has measured input lag of only 9.5 milliseconds which is also quite impressive. Such fast response time and input lag assure the absence of ghosting and blurring in fast-paced video games and movies.

There are one of each VGA, DVI and HDMI ports which will satisfy the variety of users. You can connect your tablet and other compatible devices to watch content in full HD. There’s also an audio line-in jack but it’s only usable if you’ve connected your device via the HDMI port. However, in the box of the Acer R240HY, you will only receive a power cord and a VGA cable, so if you don’t have the adequate cables be sure to obtain them.

  • No VESA Mount
  • Lack of Ergonomics
  • Backlight Bleed
  • No built-in speakers and USB ports
  • OSD Menu
  • No DisplayPort

The cheap Acer R240HY is not VESA mount compatible which means that if you’re looking for a monitor which can be hang up on the wall, you’ll need to purchase an additional fitting adapter.

This monitor can only be tilted by 20 degrees. You won’t be able to pivot, swivel or adjust the height of the monitor but given the great image viewing angles of it, you probably won’t even have to.

Backlight bleeding is an expected downside of the IPS panel monitors in which some excessive light passes through the panel and glows usually near the edges of the screen. In this case, we’ve detected a only minor amount of the light bleed present only in the entirely black backgrounds. In movies and video games, we didn’t notice any backlight bleed whatsoever.

In comparison with other budget monitors in this price range, the Acer R240HY display lacks built-in speakers and USB ports. Still, if you’d have to choose between some minor practical features and the crystal-clear image quality of an IPS panel, the choice would be fairly easy to make.

The OSD menu of the Acer R240HY monitor is not quite user-friendly as it is troublesome to navigate with and lacks the ability to adjust certain settings. Besides the brightness, contrast, and the level of blue light, there are no other options to tweak such as gamma and colors. However, you do have the ability to adjust position, focus and clock settings on the monitor.

There isn’t a DisplayPort available which means that if you have an advanced graphics card you won’t be able to use it to its fullest potential and should look for a G-Sync or FreeSync gaming monitors instead.

Who is this product for?

This budget monitor is mostly intended for everyday use but it does provide an excellent viewing experience. Aspiring designers and photographers will be able to practice and work efficiently thanks to the color accuracy of the IPS panel. Casual gamers will enjoy in brilliant picture quality, rapid response time and low input lag which is usually only achievable on much more expensive monitors.

The classy and elegant design of this monitor along with its ultra-narrow bezel make the monitor very pleasing to the eye. There is no doubt that this monitor will satisfy everyone for the price that they pay. Professional and competitive gamers should, naturally, look for a specifical gaming monitor.
