As you can see in the pictures, this affordable laptop is sleek and stylish, therefore making it very portable (it weighs only 3.6 pounds).
With its 1080p display, you get an upgrade from other similarly priced laptops, which only offer 1366×768. At 14 inches, this leaves you with a PPI of 157,35. The panel type is TN, though, and they suffer from poor viewing angles, so you need to look at the screen at the correct angle (just in front of it) in order to view the colors properly.
This 14-inch laptop offers a lot of features, which we’ll dive into right now. The processor is an Intel Celeron N4000, which has two cores and a core clock of 2.6 GHz. This isn’t particularly impressive in 2018, but remember that the laptop costs just $250 and you can’t expect it to be packing a high-performance Intel i5 processor. It doesn’t have a graphics card except the integrated one so this is not a gaming laptop by all means.
With a 4MB RAM and a storage of 64GB eMMC (flash), this laptop is designed for the lightweight users who use it for internet browsing and watching movies. It’s not a work or gaming laptop as it’s simply not designed for that. Think of it as a Chromebook.
Other features include stereo speakers and microphone+headphone jack. Furthermore, it boasts an 802.11ac network card and it also has an Ethernet LAN if you need to connect it via an RJ45 cable to a network.
Connection options include 1x HDMI, 1x USB 3.0 and 2x USB 2.0. This means that you can connect an external monitor to the laptop if you want to utilize two displays. This laptop also features Bluetooth so you can connect your Bluetooth headset and enjoy wireless connectivity.
If you want to use the webcam, there’s a 480p one in the front, but it’s not that great so if you do video conferencing, you should get a dedicated instead.
So what else do you get? Well, you get Windows 10 Home in S mode by default. Thankfully, you can easily upgrade to Windows 10 Home for free if you don’t want to be depending on Windows Store apps only. You also get a 1-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365 Personal included.
The only major downside aside from the webcam is the battery life, which is a mere 6.5 hours (specified by Acer) from the 2-cell 4810 mAh Lithium-polymer battery. That’s a bit below the average in this price range, which is around 7 hours and 15 minutes, but it’s most likely due to the better display that it offers. So if you value the display over battery time, and you want an affordable, slim and lightweight laptop, then the Acer Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA is just for you.
