Introduction

Not so long ago, MSI added the Optix MAG24C with a high-contrast curved VA panel, 1ms MPRT, and 144Hz refresh rate to their line of gaming monitors. Now, they are packing all those neat specs in larger 27-inch versions, with the addition of the innovative RGB lighting technology.

Unlike most monitors with some sort of fancy lighting features, the RGB lighting of the MSI Optix MPG27C and MSI Optix MPG27CQ actually enhances your gameplay experience with more than just glowing colors. It allows you to synchronize compatible games to the five RGB panels at the bottom bezel which can then function to depict your HP, ammo, cooldowns, killing blows, and more.

Image Quality

Both the MSI MPG27C and the MSI MPG27CQ are based on VA panels with a superior 3,000:1 contrast ratio which delivers true black colors. Furthermore, the panel boasts impressive color gamut of 100% NTSC color space coverage which is ~115% sRGB. Thanks to such contrast and color gamut, the image quality will certainly captivate and immerse you in the scenery of the gaming world.

The MPG27C monitor features the Full HD 1920×1080 screen resolution while the MPG27CQ offers WQHD with 2560×1440 pixels. The difference between the two is significant as 1440p on a 27-inch model result in perfect PPI (Pixel Per Inch) ratio and provides stunning and crisp details as well as plenty of screen real estate.

The MPG27C 1080p model, on the other hand, has considerably lower pixel density and thus provides somewhat pixelated image quality. However, it also allows your GPU to reach those high frame rates more easily.

Features

The main feature of these 144Hz gaming monitors is definitely the RGB lighting which allows you to synchronize the LED bars at the front bezel to show certain in-game factors. Some of the popular SteelSeries’ GameSense compatible games include Counter-Strike, DotA, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

In case your favorite games don’t support the SteelSeries Engine, you will still able to synchronize the RGB lights to the rest of your MSI compatible gear and to customize the LEDs at the front and at the back of the monitor.

Other MSI MPG27C and MPG27CQ features include custom crosshair overlays and the ability to access OSD (On-Screen Display) menu settings via a desktop application in addition to the OSD joystick.

A common drawback of the high-contrast VA panels is prominent ghosting where mostly dark pixels are involved. The 1ms MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time) speed technology manages to reduce the perceived motion blur and thus offer a more responsive and engaging gaming experience.

Lastly, AMD FreeSync technology is supported by both models which allow you to synchronize the frame rate of your FreeSync-compatible AMD GPU to the monitor’s refresh rate and by doing so eliminate screen tearing and stuttering for good.

Design and Connectivity
