Introduction

LG has announced two new gaming monitors, the LG 32GK850F-B and the LG 32GK650F-B. Both displays feature a VA panel with 1440p, 144Hz, and 1ms motion blur reduction technology.

The LG 32GK850F offers AMD FreeSync 2 and DisplayHDR 400 while the LG 32GK650F doesn’t support HDR10 and has the standard FreeSync only.

The G-SYNC version of these monitors is also available – the LG 32GK850G with a 165Hz overclockable refresh rate, but no HDR10 support.

Image Quality

Both the LG 32GK850F and the LG32GK650F 144Hz gaming monitors are based on a VA panel with a 3,000:1 static contrast ratio, a flicker-free screen, and a 2560×1440 QHD screen resolution.

The main difference is that the LG 32GK850F supports HDR10 and offers a wider color gamut and a slightly higher brightness.

The monitor covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a peak luminance of 400-nits as opposed to the standard sRGB color gamut and 350-nit peak brightness of the LG LG 32GK650F.

Moving on, the LG 32GK850F features second-generation FreeSync which ensures the optimal HDR gaming experience with minimal input lag. It also extends the dynamic refresh rate range of FreeSync to 40-144Hz whereas the range of the LG 32GK650F is 48-144Hz.

Features

Besides FreeSync which requires a compatible AMD graphics card (or an Xbox One S/X), both gaming monitors offer the 1ms motion blur reduction technology that works with any card. Enabling this features activates backlight strobing which reduces the perceived motion blur and reduces the standard 5ms response time speed to only 1ms.

Furthermore, both the LG 32GK850F and the LG32GK650F offer a bundle of useful gaming features including ‘Black Stabilizer’ for better visibility in dark parts of games, ‘Dynamic Action Sync’ for lower input lag, and ‘Cross Hair’ which allows you to place a customizable crosshair on the screen.

The monitors also feature RGB lighting dubbed as Sphere Lighting which allows you to customize the LEDs at the back of the monitor.

Design & Connectivity

The LG 32GK850F and the LG 32GK650F offer full ergonomic support including 110mm of height adjustment, -20/20 degree swivel, -5/15 degree tilt, 90-degree pivot, and 100×100 VESA mount compatibility.

Connectivity includes two HDMI ports and a DisplayPort. The LG 32GK850F also sports a dual-USB 3.0 hub.

Availability & Similar Monitors

The LG 32GK850F price amounts to $533 MSRP while the LG 32GK650F will go for $445 (when roughly converted to USD). They are scheduled for release on 26th July 2018 in Japan.

Considering that the G-SYNC version goes for $700 yet has no HDR10 support, we find both models well worth the money.

Conclusion

Many find gaming at 1440p and 144Hz to be the perfect experience, but it is very demanding. While VA panel monitors offer an amazing contrast ratio and deep blacks, they are also infamous for prominent ghosting in fast-paced games.

We’re eager to see how helpful the 1ms MBR technology will be in LG’s latest gaming models. In the embedded player below, you can check a review of the LG 32GK850G G-SYNC version fo these monitors.
