Introduction
We’ve already seen a few different 32:9 super ultra-wide monitors including the Philips 492P8 with a 5120×1440 resolution, the ASUS VG49V and the Samsung CHG90 with 3840×1080 and 144Hz as well as the Samsung C43J89 with a 3840×1200 32:10 resolution.
However, all these monitors feature Samsung’s VA panels. As a response, LG has produced their own super ultra-wide panel with the IPS technology and the first monitor to use it will be the Dell U4919DW.
Image Quality
The Dell UltraSharp U4919DW is based on LG’s LM490DQ1 IPS panel with 10-bit color depth, a 350-nit peak brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angles, a 5ms response time speed, a 60Hz refresh rate, and lastly, a 5120×1440 screen resolution.
Furthermore, the monitor will be factory-calibrated at Delta E < 2 and cover 99% of the sRGB color gamut making it adequate for professional color-critical work.
With the 5120×1440 32:9 DQHD (Double Quad High Definition) resolution on a 49″ screen, you are essentially getting the same screen space (108 pixels per inch) as you’d get with two 27″ 1440p 16:9 monitors, just without the bezel in between.
The panel also features a subtle 3800R curvature which brings the sides of the screen closer to you for a more comfortable viewing experience.
Features
Moving on, the Dell U4919DW monitor also offers plenty of useful features for business purposes, such as the built-in KVM switch which allows you to display two devices on the screen (via the Picture by Picture mode) and then, control both devices with just one set of keyboard and mouse.
Additionally, the monitor is flicker-free and features an integrated low blue light filter which prevents eye-fatigue and headaches to those sensitive to screen flickering.
Design & Connectivity
The design of the Dell U4919DW IPS display provides a wide range of ergonomics including +/- 170° swivel, -5°/21° tilt, up to 90mm height adjustment, and 100 x 100mm VESA mount compatibility.
Connectivity options are extensive as well with two HDMI 2.0, a DisplayPort 1.4, five downstream USB 3.0 ports, two upstream USB 3.0 ports, a headphones jack, and a USB-C port with the DisplayPort 1.4 alternate mode and up to 90W PD (power delivery).
Price & Availability
The Dell U4919DW price is $1699.99 MSRP which is reasonable considering its color accuracy and premium features. The release date is scheduled for October 26, 2018.
On a related note, Dell has also announced two more UltraSharp IPS displays including the Dell U3219Q with 4K HDR and USB-C as well as the Dell U3419W with 3440×1440, KVM, and USB-C.
