Introduction

At CES (The International Consumer Electronics Show) convention in 2018, Dell has announced two new monitors from their Infinity Edge series which boasts ultra-slim design with narrow bezels. In fact, Dell claims these to be the “brightest ultra-thin monitors” as both displays provide radiant 600-nit peak brightness.

The Dell S2419HM is a 23.6-inch version with Full HD resolution and CinemaColor HDR while the Dell S2719DM is a 27-inch 1440p monitor with VESA’s DisplayHDR 400 certification.

Image Quality

Both monitors are based on IPS panels with over 99% sRGB or ~85% DCI-P3 color gamut for vibrant and mesmeric colors and picture quality. The IPS panels also make for the most accurate and consistent color quality which often makes them suitable for professional color-critical work.

Additionally, these panels ensure the flawless 178-degree viewing angles so that there are no color nor contrast shifts when the screen is viewed from skewed angles. The Dell S2719DM and S2419HM displays offer 5ms response time speed which should be enough to eliminate most of the ghosting in fast-paced scenes.

The Dell S2419HM 24-inch monitor offers the Full HD resolution with 1920×1080 pixels which is still considered as the standard. With the addition of HDR, you will be able to enjoy higher contrast, brighter picture, and more intensive colors without putting the burden of more pixels on your GPU.

We are unsure whether the Dell S2419HM will eventually be DisplayHDR 400 certified as well since it features all the same specifications as the 27-inch model, apart from the screen size and resolution. On a related note, the S2419HM offers a feature deemed as the CinemaColor experience which uses Windows HD Color to decode and displays HDR content.

The Dell S2719DM monitor features the WQHD resolution which with its 2560×1440 pixels offers an immersive image quality with crisp details and plenty of screen real estate ideal for work, games, and everything else.

Both monitors feature the ComfortView technology that consists of the flicker-free screen and a low blue light filter for a pleasurable viewing experience without eye strain.

Design & Connectivity

Dell S2419HM, Dell S2719DM AmazonWhile these ultra-thin monitors are only 5.5mm thin at the thinnest profile point, they do have a curvature at the back which extends the width to 29mm. Furthermore, the monitors aren’t VESA mount compatible which is a shame since the InfinityEdge thin bezels are ideal for multi-monitor setups. Furthermore, connectivity consists of only two HDMI ports and an audio line-out.

Price & Availability

The Dell S2419HM and the Dell S2719DM are priced at $300 and $500 respectively while the release date is set for 30th January. The fact that you can almost get three 24-inch 1080p IPS monitors for the price of the S2419HM should make you question whether HDR is really worth it.

The Dell S2719DM 1440p monitor, on the other hand, is more reasonably priced if you’re looking for a premium display for general multimedia enjoyment. If you’re looking for a monitor for gaming, check our gaming monitor buyer’s guide for better deals.
