BenQ has announced yet another gaming monitor from their XL series aimed at high-end competitive gamers. The BenQ Zowie XL2740 is a 240Hz monitor for gaming, identical to the recently announced XL2540 model in every way, except for the screen size. Those who find 24-inch monitors too small will be able to opt for the 27-inch XL2740 and enjoy the bigger screen.

Image Quality

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 is based on a TN panel, just like every other 240Hz display so far. While the TN panel technology provides you with narrow viewing angles and washed out colors in comparison to the IPS and VA panel displays, it also allows for the quickest response time speed of 1 millisecond.

This means that the pixel transition time is instantaneous and leaves no trails of ghosting or motion blur behind fast-moving objects.

The display features Full HD screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Even though such resolution can be considered as mediocre, it will allow you to maintain those high frame rates without bank-breaking PC rigs. In fact, BenQ recommends at least a GTX 980 or RX 480 graphics card to be used with the BenQ Zowie XL2740 monitor.

If you’re wondering whether you really need a 240Hz monitor for gaming or is 144Hz sufficient, the answer is: it depends on how far you want to go in order to gain an advantage over your opponents.

While in professional gaming every millisecond counts, the difference between 144Hz and 240Hz isn’t as noticeable as it is between 60Hz and 144Hz. Alas, it is visible, especially to the trained eye. So, if you’re an aspiring gamer, a 240Hz gaming monitor can be a wise investment.

Just like previous BenQ gaming monitors, the Zowie XL2740 packs a bundle of exclusive game-enhancing features including Black eQualizer for better visibility in dark areas of games, Color Vibrance for adjusting 20 different color tones, and most likely, a backlight strobing technology for advanced motion blur reduction.

Some BenQ monitors also offer AMD FreeSync even though it’s not noted on their website, so the BenQ XL2740 might feature it as well. We’ll know for sure after CES 2018.

For the total immersion into gaming, the BenQ Zowie XL2740 1080p display offers the removable shields which eliminate all distractions and allow you to focus on the game. Additionally, the monitor comes with the S-Switch device that makes swapping between gaming profiles effortless and quick.

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 screen is also flicker-free and has a low blue light filter so that you can enjoy long gaming sessions without worrying about eye strain or headaches.

Design and Connectivity

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 offers full ergonomic support including VESA, 140mm height adjustment, 45° swivel to the left and right, 90° pivot, and -5°,20° tilt abilities. Besides the anti-glare coating, the frame itself is also designed to eliminate reflections.

When it comes to connectivity, there’s a wide range of ports available such as a DisplayPort 1.2, an HDMI 1.4, an HDMI 2.0, a Dual-Link DVI, the headphones jack, a microphone jack, and a dual-USB hub.

Price & Similar Monitors

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 price and release date are unknown at the moment, but we should have more information after CES which takes place between 9 and 12 January.

There are two 27-inch 240Hz monitors already available, the Acer XF270H with FreeSync and the Acer XB272 with G-Sync. We expect the price of the XL2740 to be somewhere in-between these two models.
