ASUS is preparing a new gaming monitor for competitive gamers – the ASUS VG258QR with a 165Hz refresh rate, FreeSync, Extreme Low Motion Blur, and a quick 0.5ms response time speed.
Besides the standard specs such as 1080p, 160°/170° viewing angles, a 400-nit peak brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and 8-bit color depth, the new TN panel boosts the native refresh rate up to 165Hz and the response time speed to 0.5ms (GtG).
This slight jump from 144Hz and 1ms may not sound like much, but experienced gamers will certainly feel it.
We are especially eager to see how will the monitor compare to 240Hz 1ms gaming monitors.
The 1080p resolution is nothing to write home about, but it will ensure crisp details on a 24.5″ screen of the ASUS VG258QR and more importantly, it will allow your CPU/GPU to reach high frame rates with ease.
Moving on, the ASUS VG258QR 165Hz gaming monitor will have all the features you can find on the previous ASUS gaming models including GamePlus and GameVisual.
The GamePlus feature consists of customizable crosshairs and on-screen timers while GameVisual includes pre-calibrated picture presets such as Racing, MOBA, FPS, RTS/RPG, Cinema, Scenery, and sRGB.
ASUS also boasts the GameFast Input Technology for minimal input lag.
AMD FreeSync is supported as well which eliminates screen tearing and stuttering if you have an AMD FreeSync-compatible GPU.
The ASUS VG258QR FreeSync range is 40-165Hz via DisplayPort thus supporting LFC (Low Framerate Compensation).
Finally, the monitor offers the ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology which can reduce ghosting even further by backlight strobing.
Design & Connectivity
The ASUS VG258QR 25″ monitor has a versatile design with up to 130mm height adjustment, +/- 90° swivel, 90° clockwise and counter-clockwise pivot, -5°/33° tilt, and 100 x 100mm VESA mount compatibility.
Connectivity includes a Dual-Link DVI-D (max 144Hz), an HDMI 1.4 (max 120Hz on this monitor), and a DisplayPort 1.2 for 165Hz and FreeSync. There is also a headphones jack and two 2W built-in speakers.
