This year we’ve reviewed many high refresh rate gaming monitors as well as some professional color editing displays. While some manufacturers announced exciting 4K 144Hz and HDR-ready monitors, BenQ has focused on the comfort and health of your eyesight with their innovative BenQ EW2770QZ display. Along the blue light filter and flicker-free image, the BenQ EW2770QZ offers a revolutionary Brightness Intelligence Plus technology which adjusts brightness and color temperature depending on the screen content and ambient lighting.

The BenQ EW2770QZ PC monitor uses AU Optronics’ AHVA IPS panel with true 8-bit color depth and flawless 178-degree viewing angles. The panel delivers accurate, consistent, and uniform colors covering 100% of the sRGB and Rec709 color gamut, 82% Adobe RGB, and 79% NTSC making it an adequate display for aspiring designers. The 1440p resolution on a 27-inch screen provides crystal-clear details due to the rich pixel density of 109 pixels per inch. While the gamma and colors are top-notch and vibrant, contrast proved to be a bit less than the specified 1,000:1 ratio, but the image quality is brilliant nonetheless.
The BenQ EW2770QZ uses Advanced Motion Acceleration in order to deliver the quick 5ms response time speed gray to gray. There is no ghosting or trailing evident in the everyday use, but in some fast-paced video games, there are some noticeable artifacts of the fast moving objects. Naturally, at this price point, you wouldn’t want to buy a 60Hz monitor for gaming, anyway. Although, uncompetitive games look stunning due to the remarkable image quality.
Obviously, the main asset of the BenQ EW2770QZ display is the B.I.+ (Brightness Intelligence Plus) feature. The small box in the middle of the bottom bezel features a built-in sensor which samples the surrounding lights and analyzes on-screen content in order to dynamically calibrate the picture. In combination with the flicker-free screen and the blue light filter, the monitor delivers the most comfortable viewing experience that allows you to watch the screen for hours without straining your eyes.
There are many ways to utilize the B.I.+ feature. Firstly, you can enable it by pressing the first OSD button placed at the right side at the back of the screen. A small icon will appear indicating that the image has been optimized, and it will appear every time the image changes; you can also disable it from appearing every time if you find it distractive. Depending on the weather, light in the room, and on-screen content, the B.I.+ feature provides you with the ideal corresponding color temperature and brightness level.
The color accuracy is slightly affected by this feature, but as the brightness lowers, color hue and saturation increases in order to provide you with a more vibrant image quality. Additionally, you can enable the Adjust by Duration option in the B.I.+ feature settings. With this option enabled, the color temperature will gradually decrease as you work, providing you with a continuously pleasant viewing experience that’s easy on your eyes at all times.
Depending on your activity on the screen, you can use pre-calibrated picture presets such as Multimedia, Web Surfing, Office, and Reading. These presets have optimal blue light filter settings ranging from 30% to 70% respectively. Lastly, the BenQ EW2770QZ IPS display offers the Smart Focus feature which allows you to highlight a particular area of the screen whilst at the same time dimming the rest of the screen.
Design & Connectivity
The design of the BenQ EW2770QZ consists of an ultra-slim 8mm bezel at all four sides which makes for an immersive and cinematic viewing experience. The base of the monitor is quite steady but has limited ergonomic support as you can only tilt the screen by -5, 20 degrees. There are, however, 100 x 100mm holes for VESA mount. The screen is coated with a light matte anti-glare protection while the rear side of the monitor has a silver matte plastic finish.
As far as connectivity is concerned, there are two HDMI 1.4a ports, a DisplayPort 1.2, and the headphones jack. In addition, there are 2x2W built-in speakers for a basic multimedia and office use.
The BenQ EW2770QZ price amounts to $470 at the moment (May 2017). Considering its innovative eye care technology in addition to the high resolution and vibrant colors of the IPS panel, it’s the best display for professional offices with people spending many hours looking at the screen. It also comes with a three-year-old warranty. On a related note, BenQ has another monitor in the works aimed particularly at designers, the BenQ 2710QC which is also BenQ’s first USB type C monitor.
BenQ has managed to develop a perfect monitor for the professional office use which will deliver a flawless image quality no matter the weather, ambient lighting, or screen content. With its innovative built-in sensor and the configurable B.I.+ feature, the BenQ EW2770QZ monitor combines state-of-the-art technology with humble but adequate specifications for professional use.
Essentially, the BenQ EW2770QZ incorporates all the key ingredients required for professional work including a high resolution and the wide color gamut with consistent colors. Apart from that, it adds the revolutionary dynamic picture tuner and eye protection to the mix. All of that available within a beauteous design and for a reasonable price.
The BenQ EW2770QZ features a revolutionary sensor which automatically adjusts color temperature and brightness according to the activity on the screen and the ambient lighting. Moreover, it offers a rich color gamut, 1440p QHD resolution, and a sleek, ultra-thin bezel design.
