EyeProtect Flicker-less Technology
The Acer Predator X34 has several gaming features, one of which is the ability to change between three gaming optimized presets. By pressing a button beneath the monitors screen you can quickly navigate between these three presets for gaming. These profiles can be additionally customized and saved. Moreover, you can set a fixed crosshair on the screen which can be a life-saver in competitive FPS games; there are three different styles for these aim points.
The ambient lighting feature lets you play in style. The Acer Predator X34 has an aesthetic LED light at the bottom of the monitor which can glow in different colors and styles. You can choose between the red, green, blue, white and orange colors or even let them change at random. Moreover, there are four different styles in which these colors can glow including fixed, flashing, breathing, and ripple. This feature contributes to the already futuristic style of the monitor, making it even more spectacular.
Enjoying the flawless image quality and stunningly beautiful monitor wouldn’t be as nice if you couldn’t watch it for hours without consequences. The EyeCare technology ensures the absence of screen flickering and ultra low levels of the harmful blue-light, so that you may enjoy gaming for hours to an end without damaging your eyesight.
The Acer Predator X34 can be tilted by a whopping 40 degrees and vertically adjusted by 5 inches. The V-shaped aluminum base makes the monitor easily turned if you need to swivel it, and the 178° viewing angles of the IPS panel count for an amazing viewing experience without any issues whatsoever. Moreover, the monitor is VESA mount compatible if you choose to hang it up on the wall.
The OSD menu buttons are placed beneath the monitor on the bottom right bezel. By pressing any button you will first get a ‘shortcut menu’ in which gamers can quickly navigate between the different gaming profiles. Further in the actual menu settings you gain access to a variety of adjustable settings including brightness, contrast, adaptive contrast, dark boost, low blue light level, gamma, color temperature and a 6-axis color feature which can be used to manually adjust the intensity levels of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, and yellow colors.
Using the other buttons you can adjust the volume of the speakers or headphones, select inputs and choose between three different modes of the overdrive including normal, extreme or off. The overdrive feature allows you to reduce the response time, but as the extreme mode causes pre-ghosting to appear and colors to contrast, it’s advisable to leave it at normal.
In addition to three gaming-specific profiles, there are five more common presets available including User, Standard, Movie, Graphics and the Eco preset.
The G-Sync feature allows you to connect your powerful Nvidia graphics card straight with the monitor through the DisplayPort. This feature synchronizes the frame rate of your monitor with the graphics card and thus eliminates screen tearing, stuttering and blurring giving you smooth and sharp gameplay experience. Additionally, you can overclock the monitor’s Hz rate to 100Hz and immerse into gaming like never before as the 34″ screen with 21:9 aspect ratio and color accuracy of the IPS panel turn gaming into a wild and exciting adventure, especially in RPG and simulation games.
What do users not like about this product?
Only two ports
Takes a lot of space
Lack of screen split feature
Most of the reviewers complained about the Acer Predator X34 having only two ports. As there are several versions of this monitor available with different ports this can’t really be counted as a drawback. There is a FreeSync version available if you have an AMD graphics card. Since you’re paying for the G-Sync adapter, it wouldn’t make sense if you bought it but didn’t have a Nvidia graphics card. The additional HDMI port can be used for a gaming console, and other than that you won’t need any more ports anyway.
Although highly praised 7W DTS speakers, they don’t deliver a specially good listening experience. The quality of sound produced by the built-in speakers is hardly better than those of a standard speakers set. Then again, the built-in speakers have yet to be advanced to the point where you can actually get rid of your usual speakers. They are still good to have as a secondary accessory in specific circumstances, but they’re nothing special.
The tremendous size of this 34″ gaming monitor will take most of your desk space as you probably expect. The massive V-shaped stand also takes additional space as the “spikes” of the stand extend in front of the monitor, taking up the area where you might want to keep your keyboard at. So, unless you don’t have a bigger desk than the usual, keep in mind that you might have to get one.
The IPS glow is a normal and expected downside of the panel where you might experience a slight backlight bleed at the edges of your monitor. In return, you get the stunning image quality with vivid and accurate colors. Besides, the IPS glow is only noticeable when you’re watching an entirely black background whilst in an unlighted room; you won’t notice it in video games and movies. If the glow still persists and you find it too distractible, consider lowering the level of the brightness in the OSD menu.
As the 100% sRGB color gamut accuracy satisfies all professional designers and photographers in addition to the huge screen and 21:9 aspect ratio, it’s a shame that the monitor has no feature which can be used to split the screen. You will still be able to use all the space that it offers, but many 21:9 monitors have a feature with which you can manually set a layout of grids in which certain windows will stay fixed.
Bear in mind that some of the video games don’t support the 21:9 aspect ratio and 3440×1440 resolution. You will still be able to play these games but with lower resolution which will result in having black borders at the sides. Most of the latest games do support such resolution, but in some, you will have to get accustomed to the black background around the picture as if you were playing on a 27″ screen which is still acceptable.
Who is this product for?
This high-end gaming monitor is intended for those who want to take their gaming experience to the next level. Professional FPS players who prefer response time over picture quality will suffer from the 4ms response time and lack of 144Hz refresh rate as every millisecond counts in competitive gaming. The less competitive gamers and those who play slow-paced games, on the other hand, will be able to enjoy in an unprecedented gaming experience.
With the amazing color accuracy of the Acer Predator X34, professional designers and photographers will get their work done with the state of the art technology. While the monitor does cost quite a lot, it delivers what it promises. The Nvidia G-sync adapter contributes to the cost of the monitor, so it would be unwise to purchase it if you don’t already have a Nvidia graphics card, or if you don’t plan on buying one.
This futuristic looking monitor delivers futuristic image quality; with 100% sRGB color accuracy both professional designers and gaming enthusiasts will feel their viewing experience like never before. It may cost a fortune, but it delivers the quality worth its price. AMD graphics card should check this version of the monitor with the FreeSync feature, the ACER Predator XR341CK.
