The Dell U2717D is an UltraSharp InfinityEdge monitor that has gained a lot of interest in the past couple of months. The monitor is also called Dell U2717DA, which is the version with a monitor arm. This monitor is meant to replace the older Dell U2715H, which was released way back in 2014. We already have the Dell UP2716D, which has a wide gamut backlight, is more expensive and offers a richer feature-set.
Due to the narrow bezels, which measures only 7.3 mm (0.28 inches) in thickness at the top and the sides, and 8.4 mm (0.33 inches) in the bottom, this interesting monitor also gained the title of an InfinityEdge monitor. This means that the Dell U2717D (or Dell U2717DA for that matter) is a good choice for a multi-monitor setup as the transition will be almost seamless. The Dell U2717D is fully customizable, as it offers full ergonomic features, such as height, swivel, tilt and pivot options.
The panel used in this monitor is a 27-inch IPS panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, commonly known as WQHD resolution. This resolution offers 1.77 times more pixels than Full HD, meaning that the image will be clearer if you switch from a Full HD display. Furthermore, the panel has a maximum static refresh rate of 60Hz and a specified 1000:1 contrast ratio. Viewing angles are 178/178 horizontal and vertical, and since it is IPS-type, the colors will be consistent no matter which angle you look at the monitor from. The monitor supports true 8-bit colors, meaning that no dithering is used, and 99% of the sRGB color spectrum is covered.
Further specifications include a 350 Nit (cd/m2) maximum luminance (typical) and a 8 ms GtG response time, meaning that this monitor will not likely be suited for gaming purposes, as ghosting will be noticeable by a lot of people. The monitor, however, has a “Fast Mode”, which will bring the response time to just 6ms. The screen surface is matte.
You can remove the screen from the stand with a release button found on the back of the monitor. This will reveal the 100 x 100mm VESA holes that you can use for wall mounting for instance or for a VESA-compatible stand. Connection ports include 2 HDMI 1.4 ports (MHL 2.0), a MiniDP 1.2 port, DisplayPort 1.2 port, a DP out port, four USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5mm audio output port.
You can find more information about this monitor on the manufacturer’s website. The price of the monitor is $799 and availability currently limited.
