Dell has previously made glossy displays, such as the well-received Dell S2415H. If you have control over the room lighting, a glossy display will give you more vivid and alive colors than a matte counterpart. At the moment, they are rare because most people prefer matte, which we also do. A glossy display reflects light in such a way that it’s very hard to see on the monitor when there’s much room lighting.
Very recently, Dell has released a trio of glossy AH-IPS monitors and the 21.5-inch Dell S2216M is one of them. This display has a very modern look and will suit well for most people who “just” want a new good-looking monitor. The other options, the Dell S2316M (23-inch) and Dell S2316H (23-inch) were also released alongside this monitor and they all have almost exactly the same specs, with the only difference being the size and connectivity options.
The stand is only tilt-adjustable, so no height, swivel and pivot adjustment available. The bezels are very thin and the outer bezel is made of hard plastic. The screen is coated with, as mentioned previously, a glossy finish and an additional mild anti-glare treatment to reduce reflections to a certain degree.
The resolution of this screen is 1920 x 1080 or FHD and it has a refresh rate of 60Hz. The contrast ratio is 1000:1 alongside a 250 Nit brightness (cd/m2). You will also get 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and the usual benefits of IPS panels, such as great viewing angles and color accuracy. The color depth is 8-bit (6-bit with FRC-dithering).
A WLED backlight is also included, which will give you great sRGB color coverage, but not Adobe RGB or other wide gamuts. The response time is 6ms and you can overdrive it with the “Normal” and “Fast” settings found on some other Dell models.
This monitor has minimal features. It does not support VESA and has poor connectivity options: a DVI and VGA connector only. This monitor is available for purchase right now and can be found for under $200 right now.
