AOC is bringing a new monitor to the market, the AOC Q2577PWQ, which is a 25-inch WQHD IPS monitor. We first saw the 2560 x 1440 resolution, also called WQHD, on 27-inch monitors and afterwards on 32-inch monitors as well. Now we are seeing them on smaller displays, such as this particular 25-inch screen. This suggests that smaller panels with 1440p resolution are trending. Not only that, but we are also seeing an increasing amount of IPS-panel monitors, even for gaming purposes, where the TN panel has been dominating because of its low response time. IPS panels can now offer a response time much better than they could before, but not quite yet on par with TN panels yet.
The WQHD resolution on a small display, like this 25-inch monitor for instance, offers a greater pixel density and a more crisp image without extra GPU requirements. Furthermore, this 25″ display offers a standard 60Hz refresh rate, a light matte screen coating. This display also offers a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 Nit luminance and has 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. A 5ms GtG response time is also specified, which is pretty common on IPS panels these days.
The panel it has, the LM250WQ1-SSA, is also known for producing very consistent and accurate colors, as it offers true 8-bit color reproduction without FRC (dithering). The backlight is flicker-free (PWM-free, uses DC control) and covers the whole sRGB color gamut.
The design of this monitor is very stylish and has a minimalistic look. The bezels are very narrow and the stand is very slender with a small base at the bottom. The screen also offers good ergonomic adjustments, such as height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments. The buttons can be found on the right side of the monitor, facing downwards, so you’ll have no issues with touch-sensitive buttons that can trigger unintentionally.
Connection options are rich: you’ll find DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and VGA connectors on the back of this monitor. It does not offer any USB 3.0 ports, although the pre-production model did. In-built speakers are also included, namely 3W stereo speakers and so are 100 x 100mm VESA holes for wall mounting and such.
The monitor is available in the UK for a price under £250 GBP.
