It was not long ago, when Acer released the Acer R240HY bidx, a 24-inch budget monitor that can be used for anything you’d like, be it gaming, video watching, work or just every day use. This isn’t a monitor intended for one specific use, but works great for many. If you are looking for a good budget monitor and you are just a casual consumer, then this certainly is a great choice. We will see if we can get one for review and will probably add it to the edition of the Gaming Monitor Buyer’s Guide as a recommended budget option.
The monitor is gorgeous and has some exciting features, specifications and the best of all – a great price. The resolution is 1920×1080 (FHD) and the panel technology is IPS, which will give you excellent color quality and viewing angles. Frankly, you should not get a TN-panel type monitor for anything else than reaction-time intensive gaming, such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). However, IPS panels being developed right now and some of them already out there, have achieved response times as low as 4ms and that combined with the low signal processing delay that some of them have, will give a very low input lag, even greater than many 1ms TN-panels. As this monitor isn’t specifically a gaming monitor, it probably does not have a low input lag, but more than sufficient for casual gaming. Te Acer R240HY also has a response time of just 4ms, which is common among IPS monitors released right now.
The Full HD resolution should also be sufficient, as it is a 24-inch monitor (23.8-inch to be precise) and a 1080p resolution on a 24-inch monitor is just fine, unless you do graphics design.
What’s probably just as exciting, or even more, is the frameless design. This monitor is just perfect for anyone wanting a dual monitor or triple monitor setup, as the very thin bezel will make it look good and convenient. Acer also mentions and advertise this on the product description for this monitor.
Connection options are as following: HDMI, VGA and DVI. Only a VGA cable is included in the box, you will have to prepare a HDMI or DVI cable if you plan to use that. You can not tell a difference between DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort at 1080p resolution and 60Hz.
Other features include flicker-free technology and Acer EyeProtect technology to prevent eyestrain and generally just protect your eyes. That means you can view on this monitor for as much as you’d like without experiencing eyestrain.
This monitor is currently available in the United States and some places in Europe. The price as of this time is just $139.99. As mentioned previously, we will try to get one of these monitors from Acer and review them, as it looks very promising. An overview of the most important specifications can be found in the table below. Feel free to share this gem with anyone you know looking for a budget monitor. You can buy the monitor here.
