Windows 10 UWP Adds Support For AMD FreeSync, NVIDIA G-SYNC and Unlocked Framerates

Microsoft has released an update to Windows 10 that allows games for the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) in Windows 10 to get some major added benefits:

These benefits are for both Universal Windows Platform (UWP) games and apps. Classic (Win32) Windows games already have these benefits, so this is nothing new for these games.

The technologies AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC are Adaptive-Sync technologies¬†that will eliminate screen tearing without the cost of any performance. It achieves this by synchronizing the refresh rate of your monitor with the frame rate that your GPU is producing. The benefit of unlocked frame rates is that the game will be rendered as fast as possible by your graphics card. Normally, screen tearing would occur because of this, but as we just mentioned, Adaptive-Sync technology will eliminate this disadvantage. These technologies are even better if your monitor supports a high refresh rate, let’s say 144Hz. Then the so-called FreeSync range – the interval of refresh rates that FreeSync ¬†will operate on – will be much higher and your gaming experience will be much smoother and better.

The Windows 10 UWP platform has recently been accompanied by titles like Quantum Break, Gears of War, Ultimate Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6: Apex (Beta), where the most latter one is available for free, so go ahead and check it out if you want to feel the power of DirectX 12.
